A Few Words from the Creator

Today you read about rape in the newspapers almost every day. You become anxious and wonder why no one does anything about it. However, media is starting to focus more attention on the matter, more and more women step out and talk about it. I believe this is because we are finally starting to react and take a stand against violence.
Nevertheless, it is still the case that many women choose not to report abuse. They are ashamed, they are afraid of not being heard or risk being exposed to further violence. Often it is a case of word against word in a trial and it is difficult for a woman to win. In a potential lawsuit, blame is often put on the woman with focus on whether or not she did something to provoke the attack. Had she had too much to drink? Was she wearing provoking clothing? Did she have a history of multiple sexual partners? Did she say anything to lead him on? How did she first react to the situation?
The penalty for rape is very low. In a majority of cases tried, the accused will not be convicted. I believe the problem lies deeper than we think. The question at heart is why some men decide to commit this heinous act. It is not a question likely to be answered in a day. It will take time. But we must not despair. We can actually begin here and now by thinking about the problem and how to solve it. Then maybe our grandchildren can finish what we have started and stop the violence completely.
Fashion against rape is created to be a campaign for women’s rights. It is supposed to bring light to this big question and reach out to all those in need of this product. Since women are the ones in need of this belt, this product is designed to be trendy and fashionable. And accessible!
In addition, it is not an expensive product to neither manufacture, nor purchase. At the moment, I’m searching for movements, companies, organizations or even celebrities to help promote this product, introduce it to the public and reach out to women all around the world. I also need help finding a manufacturer for mass-production of the belt.
If you are interested in helping me, interested in buying the product or contribute in any other way, please don´t hesitate to contact me!

Rape Facts

According to the American Medical Association(1995), sexual violence, and rape in particular, is considered the most under-reported violent crime.
The most common reasons given by victims for not reporting rapes are the belief that it is a personal or private matter, and that they fear reprisal from the assailant. A 2007 government report in England says ”Estimates from research suggest that between 75 and 95 percent of rape crimes are never reported to the police.”
Fear of not being believed, not wanting to get their attacker – who is often known to them – into trouble and a sense that they could or should have avoided the assault mean only a fraction of rape cases are being reported.
·      Violence against women and girls is not confined to a specific culture, region or country, or to particular groups of women within a society. The roots of violence against women lie in persistent discrimination against women and girls.
·      According to data available at the time of this application being put together, up to 70 per cent of women experience violence in their lifetime.
·      According to World Bank data, women aged 15-44 suffer higher risk of becoming victims of rape and domestic violence than they risk cancer, car accidents, war and malaria, put together.
·      Every fifth women in the world is going to experience rape during their lifetime.

About the Company

This product was invented in 2006 as part of a school project where students were encouraged to develop new innovations. The product is developed as a supplement to the two biggest anti-rape products on the market today, the panic alarm and protective spray. For different reasons, these two products do not always protect during an attack. For example, they may lie in an inaccessible hand bag, or they may have been left at home. They are hard to use and can, in many cases, be used against the woman.

How does it work?

The idea of the product is that wearing the belt will make it more difficult for the rapist to remove the victim’s pants!

The product consists of two laser cut metal plates. The plates are bent and formed into an additional buckle that attaches to the outside of your ordinary belt. In order to open it, you need to use both hands and move a button through a hidden labyrinth  witch, if you are not familiar with the design of the labyrinth, takes time. Some of the main features of the belt include:

·      Hard to open with one hand

This product is designed to be very difficult to open with one hand. This means the abuser cannot hold the women while trying to remove her pants.

·      Takes more time to open than a normal belt

The belt cannot be opened quickly. This gives the victim a chance to fight back, scream and use other products for protection.

·      Cannot be used against you

Unlike other products, such as pepper spray or stun guns, this product cannot be used against the victim.

·      Hidden Labyrinth for protection.

Hidden under the first layer of metal, is a labyrinth that you cannot see when the product is closed. That makes it very difficult to open the belt if you are not familiar with its layout.

·      Constant protection

Unlike a spray or an alarm, a belt is easy to remember bringing when you leave home. You don’t have to DO anything for it to help you. It’s just there, all the time.

Easy to  Use…

  1. Place part 1 on top of the normal belt buckle.
  2. Thread the belt through the loops on the pants
  3. Then tread the end of the Part 2. with a labyrinth  on the end of the belt.
  4. Now close your normal belt.
  5. To close the buckle for protection put the button on Part 1. in the beginning of the labyrinth on Part 2.
  6. Move the button up and down the labyrinth to the end.
  7. The buckle is now closed. To open go backwards.
